Facebook recently announced a drastic change that will shake up several pages. The platform has implemented an algorithm that detects pages with abusive practices, after receiving hundreds of similar pages and posts with fake engagement, allowing this algorithm to analyze commonalities.

Among the sanctions, pages that repeatedly publish engagement bait will experience significantly lower reach. If calls to engage in posts are repeated.

Practices Penalized by Facebook

  • Vote baiting: “Vote for your favorite actor of the year!”
  • React baiting: “Like if you love fries, Love react if you love chips”
  • Share baiting: “Share with all your friends to participate in our game!”
  • Tag baiting: “Tag a friend and they have to buy you a pizza”
  • Comment baiting: “Say YES in the comments if you support the arrival of this player”

New Policy

We remind you that this measure is in line with Facebook’s new policy, announced last May, which aims to significantly reduce clickbait on the social network. Many pages have since adapted by encouraging engagement rather than clicks, which displeased Facebook and prompted these new measures.
